World History
The World History Subject Test tests your understanding of notable developments in global history. With the use of basic historical terminology and techniques, it also tests your aptitude for critical analysis, asking you to interpret documented events. Not only is the exam a great selection for students who are taking AP US History, it also is complementary to their science or math subject test. Because the syllabus of the World History, SAT Subject Test is detailed and comprehensive, taking the AP US History in junior year class may not suffice. The test requires its own course of study, and its sizable amount of content means it’s crucial to start early.
- 60 minutes
- 95 multiple-choice questions
- 200-800 points possible
- Based on quotes, charts, maps, cartoons, pictures or other graphics, there can be individual questions or they could alternatively be placed in sets.
Test Content: Geography-wise
- Global or Comparative history: Approximately 23-24 questions
- European history: Approximately 23-24 questions
- African history: Approximately 9-10 questions
- American history (barring the United States): Approximately 9-10 questions
- Southwestern Asian history: Approximately 9-10 questions
- Southeastern and Southern Asian history: Approximately 9-10 questions
- Eastern Asian history: Approximately 9-10 questions
Test Content: Time
- B.C.E to 500 C.E.: Approximately 23-24 questions
- 500 C.E. to 1500 C.E.: Approximately 19 questions
- 1500 to 1900 C.E.: Approximately 23-24 questions
- Post-1900 C.E.: Approximately 19 questions
- Cross-chronological: Approximately 9-10 questions
SAT Subject Test in World History: Recommended Skills
- One must be familiar with geography, historical terminology, cause and effect relationships, and other concepts and data required to comprehend major historical events
- One must know all concepts necessary to effectively analyse history
- One must interpret data in graphs, maps, cartoons, and charts with the use of historical knowledge.
